Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus met today with the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Laila Freivalds. During the talks Labus voiced hope that by the end of 2006 political conditions for the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) will have been fulfilled and the agreement signed.
Labus said that signing of the first contract between Serbia and the European Union would significantly enhance Serbia's reputation and increase possibilities of further foreign investment and the creation of new jobs.
Freivalds stressed that Sweden fully supports Serbia in the process of European integration and expressed conviction that Serbia's road to the full EU membership and overall development of the country will be accelerated with the resolution of major political issues.
While discussing the forthcoming meeting of foreign ministers’ of the Western Balkans and the EU countries in Salzburg, Labus and Freivalds put special emphasis on the possibility of simplifying the visa regime.
Labus and Freivalds agreed that it is necessary to establish clear criteria that citizens of Serbia-Montenegro need to fulfill to be able to enter the EU countries.
