The government of the Republic of Serbia adopted today the Bill amending the Law on Road Traffic Safety, aimed at protecting the country's economic interests and contributing to better road traffic safety.
Among other changes, the amended legislative proposal provides a legal framework for testing autonomous vehicles on roads, making Serbia one of the leaders in Europe in this regard. The law also addresses the issue of a deficit of professional drivers since a significant number of young drivers have opted to work in other countries. Additionally, obstacles related to modifications of used motor vehicles are removed, as long as they comply with reasonable technical requirements during their import.
Regarding penalties, the fines for not obeying the "mandatory direction" sign for commercial vehicles passing through Serbia and avoiding toll roads will be significantly increased. This practice causes considerable damage to lower-ranked roads and poses a threat to traffic safety on those sections.
The toll for the entire Subotica-Belgrade-Presevo motorway section amounts to RSD 14,470, and the proposed highest penalty is RSD 50,000, or RSD 25,000 if paid within eight days of receiving the fine.
During the session, the government adopted amended Decree on determining the Programme of works on protection, improvement and use of agricultural land for the year 2023 was also adopted, aiming to establish optimal conditions for agricultural production endangered by abundant rainfall.
