The contract was signed on the eve of the Introductory Conference of the project for the development of local infrastructure and institutional strengthening of local governments in Serbia - the LIID project, the total value of which is €265.2 million.
Vesic stated at this meeting that through the LIID project, as many as 145 local governments will receive significant grants for the implementation of infrastructure projects and strengthening of institutions.
He expressed special gratitude to the partners in this project - the World Bank and the French Development Agency for providing great support, not only in financial terms, but also in the process of formulating the principles for the realisation of this unique project.
According to him, through the LIID project, every municipality in Serbia gets a chance to implement projects that will bring visible benefits to its citizens.
Vucic pointed out that the contract signed today for the ring road around Kragujevac, with a length of 22 kilometres, is extremely important and that it is the biggest project for this city in the last few decades.
He expressed his gratitude to the French Development Agency and the World Bank for the enormous support and funds that will enable local governments in Serbia to apply for various projects in the coming period.
Programme Manager of the French Development Agency Jelena Penezic assessed that this conference represents a turning point in the cooperation between that agency and Serbia with a focus on financing projects with a strong impact on environmental protection and social issues, in accordance with the goals of the Green Agenda.
Through a joint investment of €265 million with the World Bank, we will support the construction and strengthening of modern and resilient infrastructure of all 145 local governments in Serbia, Penezic said.
