Martinovic explained that the humanitarian offer of electricity is based on the assumption that the whole population of Kosovo-Metohija, including Serbs, are supplied with electricity. He added that a letter from UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Economic Reconstruction Joachim Ruecker arrived this morning, in which he accepts the delivery of electricity from EPS.
He expressed his conviction that the delivery of electricity to Kosovo-Metohija will begin today.
Due to frequent restrictions on electricity supply in Kosovo-Metohija this winter, the Serbian government made a humanitarian offer of supplying electricity to consumers in Kosovo-Metohija at the beginning of this year, which was repeatedly rejected by the UNMIK.
The recent worsening of conditions in the electricity supply system in Kosovo-Metohija occurred because of coal mine blueing or overheating and the suspension of production in the thermo-electric power plant “Kosovo B”, forcing Kosovo authorities to import electricity, in the amount of approximately 350 megawatt-hours per day.
