In a statement to the Beta news agency, Serbian Assistant Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Vlajcic said that building up capacities also involves partially finished initiated projects worth €120 million.
According to Vlajcic, concrete agreements will be reached in the course of the year, while the Serbian power-supply grid will play a key role in providing functions envisaged in the Contract on formation of Southeast Europe energy union.
Vlajcic explained that a great part of energy transmission in Southeast Europe goes through Serbia and will continue so when the whole grid is fully developed. He added that at this moment the main task is to raise the functioning of the Serbian power-supply grid to a regional level.
According to Vlajcic, representatives of the Serbian electric power system will consider several possible models, including the building of new capacities.
On behalf of Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, Vlajcic invited European Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Environment Stavros Dimas and European Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik to take part in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birth, to be held in Belgrade in July.
The European Commission officials confirmed their participation in the conference themed "Power Plants 2006" to be held in September in Belgrade, organised by the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining and Serbia-Montenegrin Association of Thermal Workers.
