Head of the economic team for Kosovo-Metohija and southern Serbia Nenad Popovic stated today that he has invited UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Economic Reconstruction Joachim Ruecker and UNMIK chief Soren Jessen-Petersen to an emergency meeting to propose a solution to the issue of electricity shortages in Kosovo-Metohija.
Popovic said that the Kosovo power utility company (KEK) has once more demonstrated its unprofessionalism by preventing the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) to deliver electrical energy to the province.
He recalled that until 1999, EPS's branch in Kosovo-Metohija had 8,000 employees of Serbian nationality, whereas today there are barely 30 remain.
Popovic said that with the current number of employees, KEK will not be able to operate properly much longer. He said he hopes Ruecker will deal with the problem of electrical energy supply, especially regarding the improvement of KEK's management.
