Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Milos Vucevic spoke today with members of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, led by Ambassador and Head of Delegation Emanuele Giaufret, about the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
Vucevic pointed to the further intensification of premeditated and tendentious provocations and incidents that threaten the safety and lives of citizens of Serbian nationality, as well as peace in the region.
According to him, immediately after the talks in Brussels, Pristina's temporary institutions, headed by Albin Kurti, confirm once again that they cannot be trusted and that, by continuing their irresponsible and reckless policy, they are dealing a heavy blow to all efforts to restore dialogue and preserve peace and security.
He called on the EU institutions to actively contribute to the de-escalation of the situation and prevent the arbitrariness of Kurti, who with his dangerous policy of violence is cancelling all the achievements of the dialogue so far.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the immediate release of the arrested Serbs and the cessation of further arrests, the withdrawal of fake mayors and special police forces from the north of Kosovo and Metohija, and the immediate formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
Giaufret expressed the deep concern of the EU institutions about the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija, adding that he agrees with the disappointing fact that just one day after the talks, new incidents were triggered.
He asked the authorities in Serbia to do everything in their power to avoid further deterioration of the situation and return to dialogue.
The European Union will take measures to discourage the policy of inciting violence and causing incidents, stated Giaufret and emphasised that the common goal should be permanent peace, security and economic development of the region.
