Kostunica said that Serbia will mark the jubilee 150th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla, who was the country’s greatest scientist, in a befitting manner. He added that through various programmes and shows to be held this year the public will be brought closer to the life and works of the great inventor.
At the meeting of the committee the programmes and activities to mark the jubilee were discussed. The central celebration will be held on July 10, on the day when the great scientist was born 150 years earlier.
The programme envisages the organisation of a large scientific gathering in which domestic and foreign authors will take part. Gatherings will also be held in several cities in Serbia where scientists from the country and abroad will speak on Nikola Tesla’s work and his contribution to electrical energy.
At the gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) an exhibition will be held where models and reconstructions of Tesla’s inventions will be displayed. In schools artistic and literary competitions will be held on the theme of the life and works of Nikola Tesla.
The framework of the jubilee events also envisages the publication of monographs, books, a series of postage stamps, plaques and medals.
Also taking part in the work of the committee for marking the jubilee are Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus, president of SANU Nikola Hajdin, president of the language institute “Matice Srpske” Bozidar Kovacek, representatives of the Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin institutes, the Nikola Tesla Museum, the Nikola Tesla Society, the Serbian Association of Inventors, the Belgrade Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the University of Nis, representatives of competent ministries of the Serbian government, the Belgrade City Assembly, as well as major public companies.
