First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today in New York with the Permanent Representative of the United States of America (USA) to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
During the conversation, opinions were exchanged about the upcoming session of the UN Security Council, which will be dedicated to the work of UNMIK, as well as about the development of bilateral relations between Serbia and the USA.
The interlocutors agreed that the dynamic political dialogue and talks between the officials of the two countries represent an opportunity to exchange opinions on topics that are a priority for the development of bilateral relations, achieving greater transparency and strengthening trust, especially in the year when we celebrate 142 years of diplomatic relations.
Dacic expressed the hope that the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Serbia will take place in the coming period, as well as the hope that there will soon be an exchange of visits at the presidential level.
When it comes to the upcoming session of the UN Security Council, Dacic pointed out that the work of UNMIK in full capacity is of great importance for Serbia, considering the sensitiveness of the current situation in the southern Serbian province.
Speaking about the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, he reiterated that Serbia will maintain a constructive position regarding the European proposal and the implementation of the action plan with the aim of further normalising relations with Pristina, but he pointed out that for Serbia there are red lines that it will not give up on, just as President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has been emphasising in previous months.
The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that, in order to continue the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, the next high-level meeting will be held in Brussels on 2 May, in which Serbian President Vucic will participate on behalf of Serbia.
Dacic said that the overall success of the European proposal depends on the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities, as an obligation that was undertaken ten years ago with the signing of the Brussels Agreement.
It is inadmissible that this step is conditioned by consideration of Pristina's request for membership in the Council of Europe, and Serbia harshly opposes such development of events, said Dacic.
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield called for the implementation of the agreement reached by Belgrade and Pristina in Ohrid, and pointed out that the USA will continue to be actively engaged in supporting Serbia and "Kosovo" while implementing their obligations in achieving predictable and peaceful relations, according to a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
