Pressure of international community of key importance for formation of Community of Serb Municipalities

Belgrade/Paris, 20 April 2023

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said today in Paris, after a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna, that the pressure of the international community would be of decisive importance in order to force the authorities in Pristina to fulfill their obligations and form the Community of Serb Municipalities.

Dacic pointed out that everything else – visa liberalisation or the beginning of the procedure for membership in the Council of Europe – would be rewarding Pristina.

He presented Serbia's views on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, who expressed the hope that they would force Pristina to implement the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities and that this would be a contribution to the normalisation of our relations.

The head of Serbian diplomacy said that ten years have passed since the signing of the Brussels Agreement, which for now is a dead letter on paper.

Serbia is disappointed that Catherine Ashton’s signature on that document did not mean anything and very soon we will be faced with the answer, especially after 2 May and the high-level meeting in Brussels, whether Kurti really wants the Community of Serb Municipalities to be formed. Our opinion is that he does not want that and that he wants to expel the Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, Dacic noted.

He said that Minister Colonna promised to come to Serbia, and that France supports the entire Western Balkans as part of the European Union.
