Reconstructed Nis Blood Transfusion Institute building reopens

Belgrade/Nis, 7 February 2006

Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic, State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Health Nevena Karanovic and Head of the Operational Centre of the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) in Belgrade Daniel Giuglaris today attended the reopening of the reconstructed Nis Blood Transfusion Institute building.

The Serbian Ministry of Health stated that nearly €1 million was invested in the reconstruction of the institute, out of which €445,000 went to the reconstruction of the building, €468,000 for procurement of medical equipment and €87.5 for procurement of vehicles. This investment represents part of a €5-million project themed "EU aid to the Serbian Institute of Blood Transfusion", financed by the European Union through the European Agency for Reconstruction.

This assistance will enable the Nis Blood Transfusion Institute to improve the quality of blood donations and also improve collecting, testing, processing and storing, as well as blood and blood products safety.
