The Serbian Statistics Office said today that retail prices in Serbia in January 2006 went up 0.4% against the previous month, with the prices of goods and services rising 0.4%.
The average annual growth of retail prices in 2005 against 2004 is 16.5%.
The cost of living in Serbia in January this year against the previous month rose 0.7%. The average annual growth of living costs in 2005 against 2004 is 16.2%. The discrepancy between the increase in the index of retail prices and the index of cost of living was due to different impacts of the price rise of certain items to the growth of these indexes.
The prices of agricultural products rose 3.5%. This month the prices of seasonal fruit and vegetables and fish have gone up, but the price of eggs has fallen.
The costs of industrial foodstuffs are up 0.8%.
The prices of beverages did not rise significantly, while the tobacco prices stayed level with the previous month.
The prices of non-food industrial products rose 0.1% on the average. Minor ups and downs in the prices of these items were recorded.
The prices of services increased 0.4% on average.
