Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Milos Vucevic attended last night, on behalf of the government of Serbia, the shipment of humanitarian aid from our country to the citizens of Syria at Nikola Tesla Airport.
Respecting the directives of the President of the Republic, the government organised the delivery of the first aid contingent for the Syrian people, and the "Air Serbia" plane will take approximately six tons of provisions and food to the most vulnerable areas in the earthquake-ravaged Syria, as part of this contingent.
On that occasion, Vucevic pointed out that he is proud of our country and citizens who responded to the call to help those threatened by the earthquake, and at the same time expressed his gratitude to Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belgrade Bassem Jouman Agha, for his support, help and organisation of this delivery.
He said that he received information from the ambassador of Syria that more than 100 tons of food have been collected for that country so far, and expressed his belief that together with "Air Serbia" and other carriers, we will organise the transportation of what is in the coming days and weeks. most needed by the Syrian people.
According to him, aid will be sent from Damascus to the northwestern part of Syria and where the government of that country deems that aid is needed.
The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to Serbia and its officials for the collected aid, which will help the people of Syria, as well as to the citizens of Serbia for their solidarity and compassion in these difficult times.
