At a working breakfast with journalists, organised by the Serbian government's EU Integration Office and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Naumov said that Serbia's gas demand exceeds 10 million of cubic metres per day which is a necessary amount for Serbia's underdeveloped industry and gas network during winter, and that such a large amount is difficult to provide.
The Minister added that during summer our needs are much smaller, ranging from 5 to 6 million of cubic meters. He explained that since Serbia takes from Russia the same amount of gas during the entire year, it is necessary to complete the underground gas storage facility in which the surplus of gas that we receive in summer would be kept and then used in winter.
Naumov stressed that in all Ministry's and government's plans, the priority is the construction of the storage in order to secure gas supplies during winter.
The Minister said that the Russians are an indispensable factor whether as partners in the construction of the gas storage or as an actor in the construction of the gas pipeline, and that it will remain that way.
He added that talks are underway with the Hungarian company MOL on updating the contract on gas transport.
The contract with that company will be extended on Monday, under the same conditions which have been applied so far, and in May new contract will be made that will reflect the present situation and strategic interests of both sides, Naumov said.
