The Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija stated today that the decision, by which Temporary Media Commissioner of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo Robert Gillette put into question the broadcast of programme of the TV station Most from Zvecan on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija, is wrong and that it sends an alarming message to the Serbs living in the province.
The statement stressed the fact that since 1999, the number of electronic media in Kosovo-Metohija which broadcast programme in the Serbian language has been considerably reduced. Any further reduction violates one of the basic rights – the right on information, education and culture in one's mother tongue.
This act is inconsistent with the international community's obligation of fulfilling standards in Kosovo-Metohija, including developing and not closing down the media in the languages of national communities in the southern Serbian province. Therefore, provisional authorities in Kosovo-Metohija should reconsider this decision, concludes the statement of the Coordinating Centre.
