Agreement between Belgrade, Pristina on licence plates preserves peace, stability

Belgrade/Brussels, 24 November 2022

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said last night that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on licence plates, which was reached in Brussels, preserved peace and stability, as security for Serbs in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.

In a statement for the Tanjug agency, Petkovic pointed out that this agreement means that there wll be no punitive policy of Prime Minister of the temporary institutions of Pristina Albin Kurti towards Serbs who drive cars with KM plates.

He stated that this agreement implies that there are no fines of €150 planned by Kurti and no punitive measures in all other stages that were part of the decision regarding the re-registration process.

With this agreement, we have preserved peace and managed to preserve our people in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, he emphasised, adding that it is particularly important that the KM plates remain.

All car owners who have KM plates will be able to register their vehicles normally and extend their validity, Petkovic pointed out and said that the only thing that will be suspended is the issuance of completely new KM plates until a final solution is found regarding the plates.

The Director of the Office emphasised that the dialogue and talks continue and that this is the most important thing because we need to move in the direction of normalising relations, announcing that President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic will address the public today and talk about all the details regarding the agreement reached in Brussels.
