Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic, Minister of Economy Dragan Marsicanin, and Secretary General of the Serbian Government Dejan Mihajlov met with members of the Serbian Anti-Corruption Council today to discuss possibilities to improve working conditions for the council, the Serbian government's Office of Media Relations said in a statement
Kostunica said that the Serbian government is interested in improving the functioning of the Anti-Corruption Council, to the benefit of both sides, reads the statement. The makeup of the council will remain unchanged, said Kostunica and added that its first task is to evaluate a draft law on conflict of interest and give its opinion by the end of this week.
The council will submit its plan of work for 2004 to the prime minister and will inform him on its activities on a regular basis, according to the statement.
The members of the council said their biggest problem in the past had been poor communication with ministries, particularly concerning citizens' complaints related to the process of privatisation. They also said they had lacked information about international donations for fighting corruption.
Marsicanin and Dinkic said they will provide all necessary documentation on a regular basis.
Dinkic also said that this year's budget will set aside 20 million dinars to fund the council.
All participants in the meeting agreed that it is necessary to further strengthen the institutional framework for fighting corruption, the statement added.
