Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that the obligation of the state is not to relativise violence that involves children, but to come to grips with it and engage all its resources in fighting it as successfully as possible.
Speaking at the opening of the 7th international conference on safety of children “Safety and Responsibility 2022”, Brnabic underlined that the focus must be on education from the earliest age, so that we could teach children that any form of violent behaviour is unacceptable.
She stated that it is important to offer support to children in a systemic way and added that in the future the government will have to rely even more on the work and knowledge of the organisations of civil society in order to see together how to respond to such problems in a more appropriate way.
The Prime Minister recalled that in December 2021 a protocol on cooperation of seven ministries was made, who were to work together on a first national platform for students, teachers and parents, with the aim of reducing violence against children, as well as peer violence, and bringing more order in primary and secondary schools.
The result was the platform “I Protect You”, which integrates in one place all the necessary aspects of fundamental prevention and tools for suppression of violence which involves children, whether as victims or perpetrators of violence.
According to her, more than 44,000 users attended training sessions on the platform in the first year of operation of this application, which shows how important this topic is.
The “Safety and Responsibility 2022” conference was organised with the aim of making experts in Serbia familiar with the examples of good practice and the most efficient ways of providing help to children that suffered trauma or any form of violence – whether it is peer, sexual, family or any other form of violence.
