Cooperation between Serbia, Hungary, Austria in preventing illegal migration

Minister of the Interior Aleksandar Vulin stated today, after the meeting of Serbia, Austria and Hungary on the efficient management of migration, that these countries are very concerned about the pressure of a large number of migrants at the borders, who can be compared with the beginning of the migrant crisis in 2015.

At a joint press conference with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto and Federal Minister of the Interior of Austria Gerhart Karner, Vulin said that this is no longer a humanitarian crisis, but that the difficult position of the people is being abused and all international regulations are being violated.

Serbia cannot be alone in this fight, as neither Austria nor Hungary can, Vulin emphasised, assessing that it is important that Hungary and Austria recognise Serbia as an ally and partner.

We have shown that we are very humane and in solidarity, but we will not allow ourselves to become a parking lot for migrants and to change the daily way of life of our citizens, the Minister said.

Szijjarto stated that Hungary, Austria and Serbia have agreed to join forces and further strengthen the borders between Serbia and North Macedonia, both in terms of personnel and equipment.

Karner pointed out that cross-border crime requires cross-border cooperation and expressed his gratitude to Serbia for organizing this meeting, as well as to the governments of the three countries that raised the issue of cooperation on migration.
