Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, as part of the opening of the first Serbia-US Strategic Dialogue.
The meeting was preceded by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the United States of America on the Fulbright Academic Exchange Program, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Infrastructure and Regional Energy Security.
Đurić emphasised that Serbia attaches great importance to cooperation with the United States of America in the field of energy, noting that this topic was the focus of the first session of the Strategic Dialogue. He assessed that the development of cooperation in the energy sector represents an important segment of the overall relations between the two countries.
Speaking about economic cooperation, he emphasized that Serbia sees significant room for further increasing American investments and strengthening the presence of companies from the United States, especially in the field of infrastructure.
Đurić recalled that American companies are already participating in the implementation of significant infrastructure projects in Serbia, including the Morava Corridor, one of the most important projects for the modernisation of the country's transport infrastructure.
The Minister also pointed out the importance of the United States’ support for maintaining stability in the Balkans and pointed out Serbia’s readiness to contribute to this.
He particularly emphasized the importance of the role of KFOR and the contribution of members of the United States Armed Forces as part of that mission, in maintaining security and stability in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as in the protection of the Serbian people and Serbian religious and cultural heritage, including the Visoki Dečani Monastery.
Đurić invited Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to visit Serbia, recalling that September marks the 80th anniversary of the Halyard mission.
This anniversary represents a powerful symbol of the historic alliance and friendship between the Serbian and American people, as well as one of the brightest examples of the joint struggle for freedom during World War II, the Minister concluded.
