US interested in investing in energy capacities

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic stated today that the conclusion of a strategic partnership agreement with the United States (US) will enable Serbia faster and more efficient investments in new power facilities, which is a priority for securing a lasting energy security.

Mihajlovic and US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill visited the general hospital in Pancevo and the public utility company Grejanje, in which the projects of energy efficiency improvement and the use of renewable energy sources were implemented.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that there are great American companies which are interested in doing business in Serbia and one of the largest power capacities that we want to build is the Djerdap 3 hybrid pumped storage power plant.

Mihajlovic expressed gratitude to USAID on all projects that we did and are still doing together with them and recalled that since 2001 the US has been our largest donor and that the projects with USAID alone are worth over $80 million.

Hill said that more and more American companies wanting to invest in Serbia can be expected in the coming period and added that one of the first meetings he had was precisely with Mihajlovic regarding a topic related to the strategic agreement.

The idea is to have a strategic approach to that, and I am glad that we are close to such a solution. It is not a secret that the US is interested in renewable energy sources and the development of new technologies, the US Ambassador to Serbia stated.
