The Serbian National Minorities Council, whose chairman is Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, stated at its session today that significant progress in the application and improvement of human rights of national minorities in the country has been made with the establishment of the council and commencement of its work.
At the proposal of the councils of Hungarian, Croatian, Vojvodina Croatian, and Bosniak national minorities, the council has adopted decisions on their national symbols and holidays.
Also, the proposal of the association of Jewish municipalities to include its members into the council's makeup was accepted.
The council passed the Information on realisation of the right to information in the languages of national minorities, as well as the Information on financing national councils from the Serbian budget, on the formation of municipal councils for inter-ethnic relations, and on the financing of the programme "Decade of Roma Inclusion".
Members of the Council looked at the proposal on the formation of teams for the analysis of school curricula in the languages of national minorities.
Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic briefed the council members about the progress in the process of formation of the Teacher's Faculty in Subotica, which should start working in the next school year.
