Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela Carlos Faria signed in Caracas today the Joint Declaration on setting a new date of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Declaration set 13 April 1882 as the official date of the establishment of diplomatic relations, given that on that date King of Serbia Milan Obrenovic and President of the United States of Venezuela Antonio Guzmán Blanco exchanged diplomatic letters.
Selakovic said that, despite the great distance, our relations and friendship are something that connects us, and underlined that they are based on respect for the basic principles and rules of international public law.
Serbia does not forget the solidarity and support that Venezuela provided to it in the most difficult moments, he underlined and added that we value the active support of that country in all international organisations, in which it provides clear support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.
Faria expressed satisfaction with Selakovic being on an official visit to Venezuela, especially in the year in which the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is being celebrated.
The solidarity, friendship and support that the two countries show to each other makes us proud, not only the officials, but also the people of Serbia and Venezuela, the Minister pointed out and expressed the hope that this kind of friendship between the two countries and peoples will continue in the coming years.
