Ambassador Nagai said on the occasion that the aid is intended to contribute to the improvement of emergency health services in Zemun and enable better medical care of patients on hemodialysis, who have grown significantly in number in the previous years.
According to Nagai, the donation consists of two hemodialysis apparatuses, a mobile system for the demineralisation of water, defibrillator, respirator, three monitors, ECG apparatus, aspirator, infusion pump, and a reanimation machine.
Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic said, expressing gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their help, that the new machines have arrived just in time, also considering the fact that the hospital is about to be reconstructed and get valuable equipment.
Milosavljevic recalled that KBC Zemun is one of the 20 hospitals for which the Ministry of Health has secured a loan from the European Investment Bank worth €50 million, within the framework of the emergency renovation of health care establishments in Serbia.
He explained that of the €3 million meant for the hospital in Zemun, nearly 70 percent of the funds are intended for construction works, and 30 percent for equipment, and added that the project will be finished by 2007.
