At the press conference after the meeting, Selakovic said that the meeting with his Cypriot colleague confirmed the traditional friendship, closeness and solidarity of our peoples, as well as mutual determination to make our relations even better and more meaningful in the future.
Serbia and the Republic of Cyprus are committed to deepening cooperation and expanding dialogue in all areas, as well as consistent and principled mutual support in key issues of state and national interest, Selakovic said.
The head of Serbian diplomacy especially thanked Cyprus for the support it provides to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, as a matter of our first-rate national interest, especially for the understanding that country shows for the difficult situation of the Serbs and non-Albanian population in Kosovo-Metohija.
Serbia provides full and unreserved support to the efforts of Cyprus to resolve its most important national issue, with the aim of preserving territorial integrity and sovereignty, Selakovic said.
He added that he agreed with Minister Kasoulidis that it is necessary to do everything to preserve and strengthen the stability of the Western Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking about economic cooperation, Selakovic underlined that Serbia is interested in its expansion and deepening, stating that from January to May of this year, the volume of economic and trade exchange increased by 30.3%.
Kasoulidis assessed that today's meeting is proof of the excellent dialogue between the two countries, as well as of the joint commitment to further strengthening our relations.
The Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the situation in the Balkans was discussed, adding that the political moment is very sensitive and the minimum necessary is to "ignite the region", as demonstrated by yesterday's incidents in Kosovska Mitrovica.
