Addressing a gathering devoted to the promotion of Serbian tourism in Japanese markets, Pirgic expressed gratitude to Japan, a country which has been a leader in providing help to Serbia since 2001, and added that Serbia has a very positive attitude towards Japan and its people, which is a good basis for cooperation in tourism.
Japanese Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Tadashi Nagai said on the occasion that for the development of Serbian economy it is very important that Japanese companies arrive here, because they can contribute far more than the donations given up to now by the Japanese government.
Nagai said that Serbia-Montenegro has a great natural potential and he wishes that as many Japanese tourists as possible come to visit, because they do not have a correct picture of the country, and added that cooperation in tourism can improve the image of Serbia a lot.
Expert of the JICA Satoru Yokoyama said that after a six month trip to Serbia he has come to the conclusion that the main attraction for Japanese tourists in Serbia can be monasteries.
According to Yokoyama, monasteries with their wonderful frescoes have a peaceful environment, which satisfies demands of Japanese tourists for getting to know the history and culture of other nations.
Yokoyama said that there is a huge possibility of attracting Japanese tourists, especially because in Japan nothing is known about Serbia, he added however that that is simultaneously the biggest obstacle in the arrival of Japanese in bigger numbers.
