Milosavljevic said that the work on these guides will be continued even after February 2006, when the project of elaboration of 23 guides to different medical areas, with the financial support of the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR), wraps up.
He said that the 10 latest guides deal with the prevention of diabetes, malign, cardiovascular and cerebral vascular diseases, while the remaining guides refer to the most common diseases.
The minister said that next year the ministry will repeat a substantial research project of the most frequent diseases in Serbia, bearing in mind that this was last done in 2000, after which it will be possible to say how the transition has affected the health of citizens of Serbia.
Milosavljevic said that the Ministry of Health two years ago also named the Serbian Expert Committee for the composing and implementation of guides to clinical practice, which will continue to exist even after the conclusion of this project.
According to Milosavljevic, guides, which serve to strengthen quality and unify criteria for treatment, have produced positive results so far, and at the same time were well received in the circle of doctors, which is confirmed also by the fact that more than 70 percent of doctors participated in the conferences for the preparation of these guides.
EAR health programme manager Matthias Reinicke said that the goals of this project are improving health care for the citizens of Serbia and helping health workers in practice, and added that the EAR will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Health.
