Director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic met today with EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues Miroslav Lajcak.
Petkovic conveyed to Lajcak Belgrade’s position regarding the latest developments in Kosovo and Metohija caused by yesterday’s unilateral decisions of the interim institutions in Pristina regarding Serbian license plates and ID cards.
He underlined that the recent adoption of the Roadmap for implementation of the energy agreement awoke expectations that it is a big step that opens the possibility to finally start with the implementation of other agreements too, first and foremost with the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
However, instead of that, we got a new crisis directly caused by Pristina, which can have unforeseeable consequences to the peace and stability of the entire region.
According to him, after yesterday’s events Pristina brought the dialogue to the brink of an abyss and it is becoming more and more certain that the agreements reached in Brussels have been rendered senseless.
Belgrade is especially concerned by the lack of reaction from the international community, which silently observes the moves of Albanian politicians that lead to destabilisation of the situation on the ground and the danger of conflict, which Pristina obviously wants, Petkovic stated.
He underlined that it is clear that Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija will not allow to be victims of persecution and murder. On the contrary, they are resolved today more than ever before not to let Pristina exert institutional violence against them.
