Speaking at the third international congress of the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Belgrade, Senic presented the statistic that this year the number of tourists who visited Serbia grew by 37 percent.
He said that by organising large tourism events like the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Basketball Championship, Serbia has shown that it is ready to accept such important tourism event challenges.
According to Senic, the main problem in Serbia is the inadequate quality of its tourism infrastructure, and in that area there is scope for SMEs to participate so that the quality of tourism offers is improved.
Senic pointed out the problem of residential capacity in Serbia and expressed expectation that in the upcoming year the process of privatisation in tourism will conclude and that major hotels in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis will be privatised.
Speaking on the measures in trade already taken, Senic said that the biggest success is presented by the adoption of the antimonopoly law which will regulate the administration of markets in Serbia and allow the expansion and development of SMEs.
He said that Serbia must realise a rate of growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) of a minimum of five percent so that in a short period of time it can return to the position of ten years ago.
