Speaking at a press conference at the Tanjug news agency’s international press centre, Bubalo said that the lack of such a strategy would lead to further falling behind and non-competitiveness of the Serbian economy, to a loss-making economy and similar.
He also said that it is necessary that the strategy be well done and comprehensive, bearing in mind that Serbia has already made the first transition steps and that a positive economic environment for investments has been made, in addition to the fact that more than 50 percent of privatisation of socially owned companies has been completed.
According to Bubalo, the economic development strategy has been put within a six-year framework, since it has been estimated that in 2012 Serbia will be ready for EU membership.
He said that the basic aims of the strategy are the establishment of an efficient market economy, the rule of law and social security.
He said that the key priorities are the development of new technologies, a competitive Serbian economy, the conclusion of the privatisation process and the influx of foreign capital, which is essential both for new technologies and modern business management.
