Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojsa Stefanovic met today with the Commander of the NATO Joint Force Command located in Naples, Admiral Robert Burke, who is on an official visit to Serbia.
Stefanovic pointed to the good cooperation between KFOR and the Serbian Army, but also expressed concern for the security of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, due to the unilateral moves of the temporary Pristina institutions.
He recalled that KFOR, whose activities are under the jurisdiction of the Joint Force Command in Naples, according to UN SC Resolution 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement, is a key guarantor of security in Kosovo and Metohija and its competencies cannot be transferred.
We expect KFOR to continue, in accordance with the mandate assigned to it, with its status-neutral mission, to act preventively and ensure security and stability for all citizens of Kosovo and Metohija, and to continue to cooperate intensively with the Serbian Army, the Deputy Prime Minister underlined.
Burke said that NATO highly appreciates its partnership with Serbia and the achieved level of communication between the Serbian Army and KFOR, and also expressed readiness to continue working together on security and stability in the region.
