Speaking at an event "Serbia and the future of the energy union" held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Labus stressed that the energy market brings many benefits - it introduces competition, improves the offer of electricity and the level of safety of supply, and it also encourages investments in the energy sector.
He said that the electricity market entails market prices, but the state has the obligation to keep inflation in mind and protect the socially vulnerable parts of the population.
World Bank representative David Kennedy said that South Eastern Europe needs the reconstruction of the existing energy capacities and the construction of new ones, and investment in the transmission network.
According to Kennedy, it is necessary to renovate 11.5 gigawatts of production capacities and to build of 30.6 gigawatts of new ones.
He said that a study on the estimation of investments in the energy sector in the region has been prepared.
Advisor to the Ministry of Energy and Mining Miroslav Kukobac said that the development of the energy products market in South Eastern Europe is proof of the region's efforts to get closer to the EU.
He said that the most important step in that direction is bringing domestic legislation in line with laws of the EU.
The conference has been organised by the international company Energy Financing Team (EFT).
