Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and a member of the delegation of the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Delegate Nicolas Schmit, agreed today that regardless of the outcome of the negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, they must secure stability in the region, along with the respect for human rights and rights of individuals.
Labus and Schmit talked in Belgrade about European integrations, negotiations on stabilisation and association, visa regime and regional stability.
Speaking to the press after the meeting with Schmit, Labus said that the accession to the EU requires the support of all 25 member states, including Luxembourg.
The two officials pointed to the importance of achieving normal economic growth in the region and said that stability in the region is necessary both for attracting foreign investment and creating more jobs.
This is the crucial moment in the development process when your country will have an opportunity to show its European commitment, Schmit said and voiced hope that Serbia-Montenegro’s negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement will proceed quickly and smoothly so that they could come to an end in one year’s time. He added that he believes that Serbia-Montenegro will fulfil all necessary conditions in this process.
Schmit said that he talked with the Deputy Prime Minister about the ways in which the issuing of visas can be simplified, especially for young people and students so that they could travel and be closer to the European family.
