Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic attended today the opening of the 52nd International Book Fair in Cairo, at which Serbia also took part.
The motif of the Serbian stand, which was visited by Prime Minister of Egypt Mostaf Madbulim and Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem, is the book "Jablan" by Petar Kocic, which has been translated into Arabic.
The book fair in Cairo, which is held under the slogan "Reading is life", is also attended by Director of the National Library of Serbia Vladimir Pistalo.
The International Book Fair in Cairo is the oldest book exhibition in the Arab world, which is held at the Egyptian International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo, and is organised by the General Egyptian Book Organisation.
After that, Gojkovic met in Cairo with Minister of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt Ines Abdel-Dayem.
The two ministers stated that the relations between the two states are traditionally good, friendly and that of partners, and that there is great potential for the development of cooperation in the field of culture.
They agreed that it is important to encourage strengthening of cooperation between institutions of culture of Serbia and Egypt.
Gojkovic also noted that there are significant possibilities of cooperation within the programme European Capital of Culture – Novi Sad 2022, which is an opportunity for the Egyptian culture to be presented to the Serbian public.
In order to confirm and strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture and art between Serbia and Egypt, a joint statement has been harmonised and readiness expressed to establish more favourable terms for the further development of cooperation in order to get better acquainted with cultural and artistic achievements of the two peoples in the fields of culture and art.
