The Council of Ministers highlighted the importance of further strengthening the ties and mutual values of both Serbia-Montenegro and the EU, and establishing close and lasting relations founded on reciprocity and mutual interest that would enable Serbia-Montenegro and its member states to participate in the process of European integrations and fortification and expansion of relations with the EU.
The Council of Ministers said that the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU will be of great importance for political and economic stability of the state union, contributing to its democratisation through promoting civil society, as well as developing institutions and reforming the state administration.
The council expressed its expectation that the SAA will also contribute to the stability of the whole region in the frameworks of both the stabilisation and association process with the EU and the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe through intensified overall cooperation.
The council tasked Serbia-Montenegrin Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Draskovic and acting principal negotiator of the state union’s team with providing monthly updates to the council on the course of talks, and to call for additional consultations with the Council of Ministers and Serbia-Montenegrin European Integration Council if the need arises.
