Expansion of cooperation with US in field of defence

Stefanovic underlined that defence cooperation is substantial and filled with many projects, and that it is focused on the improvement of the capacity of the Serbian Army through joint exercises with the US Armed Forces and the further development of cooperation with the Ohio Army National Guard.
The Minister sent an invitation to US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin to visit Serbia and voiced hope that a bilateral military exercise will take place as early as this summer.
He underlined that the Serbian government continues to conduct a balanced defence policy and works constantly on the improvement and further development of relations in the field of defence with all states and international organisations, in line with a long-term strategic commitment of the Republic of Serbia to maintain the status of a military neutral state.
US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Laura Cooper said that there is space for the further improvement of cooperation between the two states in the field of defence, starting from joint training and exercises.
She recalled that the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations of Serbia and the US is marked this year and the 15th anniversary of successful cooperation under the State Partnership Programme with the Ohio Army National Guard.
The talks with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Laura Cooper also featured US Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey and Serbian assistant ministers of defence for defence policy Predrag Bandic and for material resources Nenad Miloradovic, while Cooper previously spoke with Chief of the Serbian Army General Staff General Milan Mojsilovic and State Secretary Aleksandar Zivkovic.
