The Serbian government adopted today a Bill on Climate Change, whose implementation will establish a system for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enable adaptation to changed climatic conditions.
The law allows for the fulfilment of obligations to the international community and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its agreement from Paris and harmonises domestic legislation with the EU acquis.
The law sets a legal framework for further action aimed at reducing GHG emissions and adapting to changed climatic conditions, which is one of the five strategic goals of the European Union and the basis of a green and circular economy.
The bill, which has been prepared by all competent institutions, envisages the passing of a Low Carbon Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia within two years, with an accompanying action plan, whose validity will be ten years from coming into force of this law.
The government adopted the Employment Strategy of the Republic of Serbia for the period from 2021 to 2026, which defines reform steps aimed at establishing an efficient labour market in line with the accelerated technological development.
The effects envisaged by this strategy are the growth of quality employment through cooperation of various sectors: education, the economy, finances, social protection and local self-governments, and they are aimed at the improvement of labour supply and demand.
Special measures are envisaged for the improvement of the position of women, the young, disabled persons, beneficiaries of financial social aid, as well as the Roma population, given their percentage among the unemployed and other characteristics that point to an unfavourable position on the labour market.
Other vulnerable groups of the unemployed will also be in focus of the Employment Strategy, who without additional and intensive support in job search cannot improve their rating on the labour market on their own.
The government made a decision on financing the purchase of textbooks from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, which provides for free textbooks and other teaching materials for pupils from underprivileged families.
Textbooks will also be provided for pupils who acquire elementary education under an individual education programme, as well as for students with developmental or physical disabilities who acquire education under an individual education programme.
Free textbooks are also provided for students who need adjusted teaching aids (enlarged font, Braille, electronic format), and for students who are the third child or every subsequent child in a family in the school system.
At today's session, the government gave consent to the opening of the Consulate General of the Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Republic of Serbia, with the seat in Novi Pazar.
