The Serbian Statistics Office has said that retail prices in Serbia in September 2005 went up 1.1 percent month-on-month, with the prices of goods rising 1.2 percent and services 0.9 percent. Compared to December 2004, retail prices in September rose 11.8 percent.

The cost of living in September 2005 rose one percent from the previous month and 11.2 percent from December 2004. The discrepancy between the increase in retail prices and the rise in the cost of living was due to different impacts of individual items on the overall index, the Statistics Office explained.
The prices of agricultural products fell 5.3 percent on the average from the previous month, while the costs of industrial foodstuffs were up 1.7 percent.
The prices of beverages were down 0.2 percent on lower prices of non-alcoholic drinks. The tobacco prices remained unchanged.
The prices of non-food products rose 1.8 percent on average, with increases also recorded in the costs of fuels, lubricants, and medicines.
