Serbian Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo bestowed a formal recognition from the government to President of Ball Packaging Europe Jan Driessens as well as Ball’s Chairman of the Board Hanno Fiedler, on the occasion of putting into operation the most modern plant for production of aluminium cans in Europe, formally opened today in Batajnica.

The Decree on the bestowment of the recognition was passed by President of Serbia-Montenegro Svetozar Marovic.
The new plant will employ around 120 workers, with an additional 1,000 staff engaged in follow-up activities. The beverage can plant was built in less than ten month and costs came in at more than €50 million, making it currently the largest foreign investment project in Serbia. The opening of this factory is yet more proof of Serbia-Montenegro creating an increasingly favourable economic and regulatory climate for foreign investors.
In July 2004, the OECD Investment Compact from Vienna gave credit to the Ball Packaging Group, the world leader in production of aluminium cans, for the largest greenfield investment in southeastern Europe, on the occasion of the commencement of construction of the plant in Serbia.
