Positive dynamics in relations between Serbia, United States

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic pointed out today the importance of understanding the historical context of relations between Serbia and the United States through past alliances, which reflected common values and unity for the preservation freedom principles, in order to predict the future directions of development of these relations.

At the lecture on Serbian-American relations at the opening of the second cycle of the Serbian-American Academy for Leaders, Dacic pointed out that in considering our relations, one should be realistic and admit that asymmetry has always been present in them, but nevertheless Serbia has shown that it is possible that a country that is not that big be an American ally and an important friend.

For that reason, our relations should be viewed in a broader perspective and positive examples from our common history should be pointed out, because that is the best way to change the wrong perceptions we have created about each other, Dacic pointed out.

He pointed out that in terms of current relations, Serbia is determined to approach open issues in a diplomatic and constructive manner, taking into account wider stability, and that we are ready to strengthen bilateral relations, because only such an approach has led to cooperation between Serbia and the United States has a positive dynamic.

Dacic pointed out that the issue of Kosovo-Metohija is certainly the most important topic of our political dialogue, and that we remain completely open for further talks on resolving this issue.
