Significant room for further development of cooperation between Serbia, Kazakhstan

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić emphasised today in Almaty that the Intergovernmental Serbian-Kazakh Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation is one of the key mechanisms for improving overall relations between the two countries.

In his opening remarks at the fourth session of that body, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin, Dačić pointed out that in recent years there has been a significant intensification of political dialogue between the two countries and visits at the high and highest levels.

He pointed to the growth of trade exchange in the last two years and emphasised that there is significant space for improving the placement of agricultural and food products on the market of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, as he emphasised, is of great importance for the development of bilateral economic cooperation, as well as the fact that Kazakhstan was our second partner in terms of the total value of trade in goods in 2024.

In the final part of the work of this commission, Dačić emphasised that the Government of Serbia is making great efforts to create an encouraging environment for attracting new direct investments.

The Deputy Prime Minister also referred to Specialised Expo 2027, emphasising that it will be the first Expo ever to be held in the Western Balkans region.

After the session, Dačić and Zhumangarin signed the Protocol from the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Serbian-Kazakhstan Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The Deputy Prime Minister, in a statement to the media, assessed that the session of the Intergovernmental Commission was very successful, expressing gratitude to Kazakhstan for its principled position on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

Dačić stated that the foreign trade exchange between Serbia and Kazakhstan last year was $600 million, and this year it is better, since it reached $500 million in the first six months.

As key areas in which cooperation will develop, he primarily singled out the military industry and military cooperation, pointing out the importance of the upcoming opening of a direct airline with Astana.

According to him, the third area of cooperation is construction, as the Kazakh side has expressed its desire to build magnificent hotels and multi-purpose centers in Belgrade with the name of Kazakhstan, while the fourth area is the development of cooperation in agriculture, tourism, science, culture and health tourism.
