Okolisanov told a press conference that the total value of registered claims secured by pledges has amounted to 1.9 billion dinars, €450 million, $22.5 million and approximately 32 million Swiss franks.
He said that trucks, buses and passenger vehicles are most often used as pledges, as well as production machines and equipment, while the Tax Administration and banks have shown the greatest interest in the registration of pledges.
Security Rights Registrar Tanja Vukotic-Marinkovic said that the establishment of the Register of Pledges as a unique central database will help create more favourable conditions for business activities by providing greater legal safety for investing in Serbia's economy.
Marinkovic explained that the Register of Pledges gives priority to creditors in the collection of debt, while all legal and physical persons can check the creditworthiness of the debtor on the Agency's website,
www.apr.sr.gov.yu, as well as whether some movables or rights have already been given as a pledge.
She recalled that the requests for registration of security rights obtained before August 15, 2005 can be submitted by November 15.
