Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Vojvodina Prime Minister Igor Mirovic opened today the newly-built Science and Technology Park intended for the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, in which €26 million has been invested.
Brnabic explained that this is the first phase of a 10,000 square metre science and technology park, where part of the Faculty of Technical Sciences will be housed, adding that the construction of the second phase for 20,000 square metres is in progress.
Works on this, much of the park are in the "gray phase" and everything needs to be aligned with the needs of the companies that will work there and be adequately equipped, she added.
She expressed belief that when completed and at full capacity, the Novi Sad science and technology park would be one of the most successful parks in the country, even more successful than the one in Belgrade.
The science and technology park, innovation and startup companies and R&D centres of large companies will be at one place. We will have one real small ecosystem that will mean a lot to the future of the whole country, she said.
Brnabic recalled that until 2014 Serbia had no science and technology parks, and that by the end of this government's term it will have four such parks and an entire network of start-up centres.
This is a special day, a dream we all dreamed together, the Prime Minister said, noting that the goal is to transform the entire society.
Today we have the preconditions for a fundamentally better future for the generations to come. We have the infrastructure for a different future and we will leave to the next government all the prerequisites for that, she said.
Mirovic said that the newly opened facility covers an area of 30,000 square metres, noting that 3,000 students and 400 professors, lecturers and assistant lecturers of the Faculty of Technical Sciences will have the most up-to-date working conditions.
He announced that the park will be rented to start-ups and IT companies in the middle of the year, estimating that this is a big day for the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and Serbia, as another fundamental pillar of the development of educational and scientific work in the field of information technology has been laid today.
This is very important for a faster growth of the University of Novi Sad, as one of the most prosperous universities in this part of Europe, which has enormous development significance for our entire society, Mirovic concluded.
