The Diocese of Raska-Prizren’s Information Service stated today that an unexploded mortar shell was found in the backyard belonging to Milivoje Nisic, who lives in the village of Cernica, near Gnjilane. The explosive device was put there sometime in the night between July 29 and July 30.
According to the testimony of priest Dragan Kojic from Kosovska Vitina, attached to the mortar shell with insulating tape was a hand grenade, which was supposed to serve as a detonator.
The bomb was detected early in the morning of July 30 by Nisic’s wife Jasmina, who immediately informed KFOR and requested that the soldiers come and dismantle the explosive.
However, some hours later, instead of KFOR, Kosovo Protection Corpus members came and dismantled the bomb.
There were four children present in the Nisic house on the night when the explosive was put there.
The most recent incident in Cernica caused additional disquiet among the village’s Serbs, who have more than once been targeted by extremists, reads the statement.
