The Serbian government has decided today to issue long-term government securities in the international financial market, by which the most favourable financial means will be obtained to replace a more expensive debt due in 2020.
By issuing bonds on the international capital market, the Republic of Serbia becomes visible and recognizable to foreign investors, and through this method of financing it reduces the risk and costs of borrowing in the future.
This decision made it possible to issue long-term government securities in the international financial market in accordance with European best practice.
The government also adopted a decision on early redemption of long-term government securities on the international financial market, denominated in US dollars previously issued on the international market.
The objective of this decision is to improve public finances, reduce foreign currency risk exposure and enable further repayment of more expensive debts of the Republic of Serbia.
The government also adopted the Decree on the National programme for the security of ships and shipyards, since the Republic of Serbia has the status of a member state of the International Maritime Organization and is obliged to adopt a regulation governing this area.
The government decided to declare the 5th European University Games to be held in Belgrade in 2020 a project of national importance for the Republic of Serbia.
The organisation of this prestigious competition, which will be held on 12-25 July 2020 in Belgrade, represents the biggest sporting event of the next year in our country and aims to improve the position of university sports, as well as positioning Serbia on the map of university sports in Europe.
Belgrade will host more than 5,000 student athletes from approximately 40 countries, from more than 400 universities.
