The UN Secretary-General’s special envoy for the assessment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija, Kai Eide, stated today after meeting with Head of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija, Nebojsa Covic, and working group representatives, that he will not allow anyone to exert pressure on him during the process of writing his report on the standards in Kosovo-Metohija.

Eide said that in writing this report, he will only be influenced by those people whom he spoke with while he visited Kosovo-Metohija.
He stated that he still does not know what the final report, which he will submit to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, will contain, nor what recommendations will be given, but he did point out that the report will represent the situation he saw during his stay in Kosovo-Metohija.
Eide said that the talks with representatives of the working groups for the return, the missing and the kidnapped, as well as for traffic and energy, were very useful, as these people are addressing the essential problems in Kosovo-Metohija.
Eide said that if he were asked whether there has been improvement in that sense, the answer would obviously be no. He stated that it is necessary to achieve progress concerning the return of the displaced and in finding missing persons.
Covic said that he believes that Eide will write an objective report on the standards in Kosovo-Metohija and pointed out that there is no need for anyone from Pristina to state that the report will be positive, since that could be interpreted as pressure, especially if such statements were given by international officials.
