Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said in today’s meeting with the UN Secretary General’s special envoy for the assessment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija, Kai Eide, that a report on the standards in Kosovo-Metohija must reflect a true state of affairs in the province.
Kostunica stressed the importance of the report’s objectivity, adding that mistakes made at this stage would not be possible to correct later on.
Eide said he has visited several towns in Kosovo-Metohija in order to get acquainted with the situation and he pointed out that the situation in certain places is very difficult.
Kostunica pointed to the difficult position of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija and to the lack of basic human rights in the province.
Kostunica also noted that there has been no progress in the process of decentralisation of power in the province. Eide agreed with this assessment and he stressed the importance of decentralisation.
