First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic announced today that three meetings of the United Nations Security Council (UN Security Council) on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija will be held this year.
Dacic said in a statement to the Tanjug agency after the UN Security Council session that in 2020 two meetings will be be dedicated to the situation in Kosmet.
He said that yesterday's session of the UN Security Council was one of the most positive for Serbia, since all members of that body of the UN unanimously condemned the 100% Pristina taxes on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and called for the immediate abolition of this measure.
Dacic stressed that he was especially happy that such words were heard not only by representatives from Russia, China, Indonesia, Equatorial Guinea and the South African Republic, who did not recognise the independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
Dacic said that all other members had said that, such as, for example, the US, which also called for the immediate abolition of taxes, Germany, which pointed out that this is absolutely contrary to European values, while exceptionally harsh were Belgium, Poland, Côte d'Ivoire.
It is very important that we reached an unanimous agreement by all the members of the UN Security Council that the issue of dynamics in which the sessions will be held will no longer be posed, since this did not depend on Serbia at the end of the day, Dacic assessed.
He pointed out that, given that some Western countries do not want the topic of Kosovo at the session of the UN Security Council, there was a danger that this session would not be held at all.
We agreed that this year three sessions will be dedicated to the Report of the Secretary General, that is, the situation in the province, with the possibility of convening extraordinary meetings due to positive or negative events, explained Dacic.
The First Deputy Prime Minister also emphasised that an agreement was reached that next year the sessions should be held twice a year, and next year.
Dacic expressed gratitude to Equatorial Guinea, which, as he said, acted principally, although this is a small country that presides over the UN Security Council this month, and said that the country is a great friend of Serbia.
