Head of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija Nebojsa Covic met today at the Palace of Federation with UN Secretary-General Special Envoy Kai Eide, who is in chare of assessing the implementation of standards in Kosovo.
The Coordinating Centre stated that Eide informed Covic with the plan and schedule of his activities in the following period. Eide highlighted the impartiality of his mission in relation to that of UNMIK and the wish that his report be as objective as possible, which entails open cooperation with all interested parties.
Eide said that he is especially interested in making a thorough insight into the "state of affairs" throughout Kosovo-Metohija, explaining that that is why he will not hurry with the report or be rushed by anyone.
Covic agreed with Eide that it is necessary that the report be based on the true state of affairs and confidential facts and that there are standards whose implementation cannot be postponed. They also agreed that one of the main elements is the true position of minorities.
Covic endorsed Eide's view that, in this context, the key aspects are results and not the procedure.
Eide also said that his report will include a political dimension and stressed the importance of politicians’ responsibility in all subsequent procedures. He added that he expects the politicians to come out with future-oriented views on political perspectives in the upcoming contacts and in the preparation of the report.
The statement concludes that Covic and Eide have also agreed on the importance of political processes in relation to Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the importance of the stability of Serbia and the wider region.
