In a joint statement, ministers Ilic and Dinkic said they agreed today with representatives of the unions to implement the agreement signed on April 12 that includes the following conditions:
-By a written guarantee of Predrag Markovic, the Serbian parliament speaker, it is confirmed that the bill on changes and amendments to the Law on road transport will be debated and enacted at the parliament’s special session by the end of July this year.
- Local authorities in Serbia are ordered to suspend the issuing of new taxi-driving licenses until the above-mentioned bill is passed.
-Under new regulations, travel warrants must contain the certificate of the mechanical condition of the vehicle.
-The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of International Economic Relations told union representatives that due to a considerable improvement in the country’s exports, they should forward a proposal in October to the government to allow for the import of vehicles up to six years old for all citizens, including taxi-drivers and transport companies. Also, all restrictions on the import of vehicles, with the exception of certain environmentally friendly ones, will be abolished in March 2006.
-Tightening up the supervision over illegal transporters of goods and passengers was also agreed.
This agreement effectively postponed the announced strike of the taxi-drivers’ and transporters’ unions. The joint statement was signed by Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic, on behalf of the government, and the striking committee chairman Aleksandar Bijelic, on behalf of the union.
